Join the Migration Museum as we partner with the Royal Museums Greenwich and the Caribbean Social Forum to celebrate Windrush Day 2025 – honouring the legacy of the Windrush generation and Caribbean culture in the UK today.

Find us in the ReThink space at the 📍 National Maritime Museum, with an engaging programme of drop-in activities for all ages, including:

  • Share your story – fill in a story disc to become part of our collection of 7,000+ migration stories
  • Self-guided boat-making workshop, inspired by stories of migration
  • Family-friendly creative activities

Our story discs are handwritten reflections from visitors. Prompts range from “I migrated here” to “Someone in my family emigrated from here.” Many past stories have come from the Windrush generation and their descendants – we’ll be displaying some of these on the day. If you or someone in your family has a migration story to share, especially one that’s never been told, we’d love for you to add it to the collection.

The wider event includes talks, games, music, and family history sessions, delivered in partnership with the Caribbean Social Forum and the National Maritime Museum. Full Windrush Day programme here.

Why Windrush Day Matters

On 22 June 1948, the HMT Empire Windrush arrived in Britain, carrying over 800 passengers from the Caribbean. Today, Windrush Day is a moment to reflect, remember and celebrate the contributions of the Windrush generation and their descendants to British life.

Come along for a day of remembrance, discovery and celebration — all ages welcome. Click here for directions and travel info.
