Anna’s Keepsake carries connections with a person and a place…

This mug comes from Ukraine and it was given to me by my daughter. It reminds me of my country which I had to leave to find work and a home in England.

Sunil’s giraffe connects him with Kenya.

My family originate from Kenya and every year I go and visit them. This giraffe was handmade there and I brought it back and keep it in my bedroom at home because it reminds me of where I come from and it also brings good luck.

The Irish Post visits Adopting Britain

James Mulhall, reporter for the Irish Post, was shown around the Adopting Britain exhibition at the Southbank Centre recently by Andrew Steeds, MMP project manager. His review of the exhibition (Tuesday 25 August) has a clear focus on the section of the exhibition looking at Irish immigration into England, for which the Archive of the Irish in Britain was centrally responsible, but an equally clear enthusiasm for the larger ambition of the Migration Museum Project.

MMP on Radio Leicester

This week Radio Leicester has been showcasing more of its ‘100 Stories of Migration in Leicester’, a collection of audio accounts of the lives of people who have moved to Leicester from other parts of the world or country. This series, which was set up by Dimple Patel (the community outreach manager at BBC Radio Leicester), was originally designed to complement the display of 100 Images of Migration, when this was on show at the University of Leicester’s School of Museum Studies.

Our project manager Andrew Steeds was interviewed on this story for Radio Leicester’s morning show this Monday. You can hear the interview here (it’s at 2h 40m 42s into the show).

A selection of the Radio Leicester Stories of Migration were featured in Adopting Britain, the exhibition in the Southbank Centre, to which the Migration Museum Project has been a proud contributor!
