My aunt sent me this Somalian shash as a gift. I was meant to wear it when I got married but for me it’s my connection to Somalia, as I’ve grown up and lived here all my life. Only married women in Somalia wear these headscarves, but I used to wear it when I was fifteen and got some funny looks from Somalian women.

Caitlin tells us about her mum’s pretty parasol from Thailand.

My mum went on holiday to Thailand with my Thai Auntie and she brought this parasol back with her. It means something to me because somebody in Thailand took time out of their lives to hand paint the parasol for my Mum. Its special because its one of a kind and it comes from my aunt’s country.
