The Portal Trust has become an inaugural donor of the UK’s first permanent Migration Museum in the City of London.
The Portal Trust will provide £0.5 million in funding over the next three years to help the Migration Museum establish Britain’s first permanent museum dedicated to exploring how migration has shaped who we are – as individuals, communities and nations.
The Migration Museum is extremely grateful to the Big Yellow Self Storage Company in New Cross for providing us with storage free of charge.
We have recently moved out of our previous temporary venue in Lewisham, and, as we work to secure a new temporary venue, it’s been tremendously helpful for us to be able to store exhibition, learning and other resources at Big Yellow in New Cross. We’d like to say a big thank you to the whole team at Big Yellow.
Big Yellow Group PLC is the UK’s favourite self storage company, providing secure and modern self storage units for homes and businesses nationwide. Founded in 1998, it now operates from a platform of 110 storage facilities, including 23 branded as Armadillo Self Storage. Big Yellow employs over 450 people and is listed on the FTSE 250 London Stock Exchange.
We are really sad to announce that Sunday 30 March 2025 will be our final day open to the public at our current venue in Lewisham Shopping Centre.
We’ve had a fantastic five years in Lewisham, building lasting friendships – and we couldn’t have been made to feel more welcome. We are immensely grateful to Landsec for generously enabling us to host our museum in such a brilliant venue in the heart of this incredible community, and to every single person who has visited, contributed and supported the museum over the past four years.
You still have plenty of time to come and visit us before we close our doors – we’re planning some special events and activities during our final few months in the space, which we’ll be announcing soon.
And this isn’t goodbye – we are currently exploring a range of different temporary venue options for the period leading up to us opening at our permanent home in the City of London in 2027 and will share news on this with you as soon as we have it.
Come with us on our journey – and, in the meantime, come and see us during our final months in our current venue.
