Share your story with us…

Do you have a connection to the City of London, Tower Hamlets, Southwark or Lewisham? Add your story to our growing collection – and be a part of Britain’s migration history…
Storytelling is at the heart of what we do at the Migration Museum. We are collecting stories that will reflect the personal experiences of movement to and from Britain – with a particular focus on the areas local to our new permanent home in the City of London, as well as our former home in Lewisham.
Whether your own lived-experience, memories of a family member or details of a distant ancestor – one of the easiest ways to record your migration story is on a story disc. Over the past 10 years, we’ve collected more than 10,000 discs contributed by visitors to our previous temporary venues and participants in our workshops.
Contributing a story is easy – simply fill out a disc in your own words. There’s no right or wrong way to tell your story – just let us know how migration has shaped you or your family. See here for inspiration.
We hope these accounts will tell a deeper, human, story of migration that goes beyond newspaper headlines – and, once collected, will form part of our growing collection. These contributions will also ensure that histories are more representative for future generations to learn from.
We’ll be collecting story discs at local festivals and events across London over the coming months, so keep an eye on our events page, or sign up to our mailing list for more details.
If you are part of a local community group and think your members would enjoy a free outreach session and story-disc workshop, then please send an email to our Public Engagement Coordinator Frances Ewings at: frances@migrationmuseum.org.
Story boxes for schools
Schools can also take part. If you are a school in the City of London, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets or Southwark, then you can get a FREE box with a selection of our migration story discs. Your box will include:
– Migration story discs for all your students to fill out
– Classroom activities
– Free postage back to the museum
If you are a school from another borough outside our grant area, you can still take part. We are asking for a small donation of £40 to cover the printing and postage costs.
