Community Guidelines
Our digital channels are a place for storytelling, learning, inclusive conversation, and a place to find connections to migration – and each other.
Everyone who comes to our digital channels has the right to participate in respectful and constructive discussions. We strive to make our online community as welcoming and inclusive as our physical spaces — a place where people can come together to share stories, have their voices heard and feel represented.
We love hearing from you and to ensure that everyone has a positive experience, please take a moment to review our online community guidelines.
Be respectful
Please avoid posting any hateful, defamatory, discriminatory or harassing comments or content. This includes malicious speech regarding gender, sexual orientation, religion, gender identity, age, ethnic origin or race; sexist comments; hate speech; aggressive or threatening language, suggestion or encouragement of illegal activities; links to any illegal media and websites, explicit content including pornography, or anything that could be deemed as offensive to others.
Protect privacy
Avoid posting any personal information, such as email addresses, phone numbers, addresses or other personal information. This also includes private correspondence between a user and other community members, or a user and the Migration Museum.
Stay on topic
We welcome debate and discussion, but please keep comments relevant to the original post, and don’t repeat the same message across multiple unrelated posts.
Don’t advertise or self-promote
Avoid posting spam or comments that serve as advertisements for yourself or others.
How we moderate
We have a duty to protect our digital content team and to keep our digital platforms as safe and respectful spaces. While deleting comments will not be our first option, our position is that any post containing content that is not respectful of these guidelines will be deleted. If users continue to repeatedly post content that goes against our guidelines, it’s likely they will be blocked, and in serious cases, reported.
How to report concerns
If you see content or behavior that doesn’t follow these guidelines, please report it directly using the platform’s reporting tools. This helps the platform take quick action to keep everyone safe. We encourage our community to look out for one another and help maintain a positive, respectful space for all.
When we’re on our social media channels
We monitor our social media platforms during our core office hours, which are between 9am and 5pm GMT, Monday to Friday, excluding UK national holidays. We aim to respond to all enquiries as quickly as possible, but some enquiries can take longer to resolve.
