Cutting sugar cane on the Blairmont Estate in the
Berbice area of eastern Guyana. The coastal region
of Guyana was one of the first places to grow sugar
in the Caribbean. Labour on plantations across the
region first supplied by slaves brought by force from
Africa, and later by indentured servants from India.
